I was born on the 1st of March, 1948 in Győr.
Started photography during scholar years, with the initial guidance of the photographer Endre Rácz. As I have graduated and possess several technical degrees, in the beginning I was shooting technical subjects, instructional movies and technical photographies.
I live at Budapest since 1973. After moving to the capital, I have met Károly Kochol, leading photo artist at the Hungarian Television, who helped me a lot in my professional development. Concerning my recent works in the Jewish subject, I have received invaluable help from Sándor Scheiber, Dr. , world-famous professor (retired) of the National Rabbi Seminar.
The jewish community is a closed world. When taking pictures, it is key to respect people and laws of the religion. While capturing pictures during ceremonies, the photographer must remain invisible to the audience.
This kind of photography was just tolerated in Hungary until the ‘90-s.
There were plenty of photographers and chief artists in the country during the communist era, who were strongly opposing themselves to the jewish subject. Therefore most of my exhibitions took place abroad, where I have won several prizes, appeared in different foreign television shows. A portion of the photographs concerning Hungary in the “Atlas of the Jewish World” (Oxford, UK, Equinox Editorial) are also my works. My photos are bought mostly by individuals and museums from foreign countries. Accordingly, I was not really playing a part in the hungarian photo-world, but I made no efforts to be part of it. I had no exhibitions in Hungary between 1985 and 2001. My first exhibition in my home country after this long period was in 2001, at Kalocsa, then in 2003 at Budapest, 2005 at Mátészalka, followed by an international exhibition in 2006 in Bruxelles.
